5 Free University Courses to Increase Your Creativity

Creativity has been defined as a thought process that can be acquired and improved through instruction and practice. According to research, one way to increase your creativity is to try something new to perceive things differently.

One idea of trying something new is to take a free online course.

The options are many, there are several courses available for different topics and they are taught by some of the leaders in those fields.

There is a list of options on MOOC List (MOOC stands for Massive Open Online Courses) of both courses that start at a specific date and self-paced courses where you can download the course material.

Here are 5 courses I find interesting at MIT where you can download the course material for free:

  • How to Develop Breakthrough Products and Services – In this course Prof. Eric von Hippel teaches how to develop breakthroughs systematically
  • Entrepreneurial Marketing – In this course Prof. Jin Gyo Kim clarifies key marketing concepts, methods, and strategic issues relevant for start-up and early-stage entrepreneurs
  • Building and Leading Effective Teams – In this course Prof. John Carroll introduces concepts and uses exercises to develop individual and team skills.
  • Listening to the Customer – In this course Prof. Drazen Prelec teaches marketing research that emphasizes understanding the customer with qualitative methods (interviews, focus groups, Voice of the Customer, composing questions for a survey).
  • Managing Innovation and Entrepreneurship – In this course Prof. Fiona Murray discusses the basics every manager needs to organize successful technology-driven innovation in both entrepreneurial and established firms.

You can also learn a new language at Duolingo, sign up for an upcoming course at Coursera or learn to program at Codecademy.

The options are many. What course could you benefit from in terms of trying something new to perceive things differently and increase your creativity?
